What is the Jr. Lifeguard Program?

The Hansen Dam Junior Lifeguard Program is a six week program designed to provide kids, ages 9-17 with a well rounded experience of knowledge, skills, and the life-style of an open water lifeguard. Participants will learn open water lifeguard skills. Furthermore, participants will attend competitions and attend fields trip Catalina Island. Contact Hansen Dam for more information.

Requirements, Program Cost and Length

Registration: Opens April 1st (must complete tryout) | Tryouts: 5/4, 5/11, 5/18, 6/1, 6/8

Time: 9:00AM - 12:00PM

Dates: 6 weeks from June 17, 2024 - August 2, 2024

Time: 8:00am-12:00pm

Days: Monday - Friday

Price: $450 per participant

Mandatory Parent Meeting: June 15th, 2024 @ 9am

TRYOUTS

New applicants must successfully complete a swim test prior to registration. The test consists of the following (returning applicants do not have to tryout):

Test: 100-yard swim under 2:00 minutes.
Available Dates: May 6th, 13th, 20th & June 4th and 6th
Time: 9:00am to 12:00 pm
Test Location: Hansen Dam Aquatic Center
Returning Jr. Guards: Registration opens (TBA)
Maximum Enrollment: 80 participants
Participant Age: 9-17 years old

MANDATORY PARENT MEETING

At least one parent/guardian must attend along with their new or returning Junior Lifeguard. Additional uniform items will be available for purchase on this day.
