What is the Jr. Lifeguard Program?

The Hansen Dam Junior Lifeguard Program is a six week program designed to provide kids, ages 9-17 with a well rounded experience of knowledge, skills, and the life-style of an open water lifeguard. Participants will learn open water lifeguard skills. Furthermore, participants will attend competitions and attend fields trip Catalina Island. Contact Hansen Dam for more information.

 Program Cost  and Length

Dates: 6 weeks from June 22, 2026 - August 5, 2026

Time: 8:00am-12:00pm

Days: Monday - Friday

Price: $500 per participant / $480 per additional child

TRYOUTS

New applicants must successfully complete a swim test prior to registration. The test consists of the following (returning applicants do not have to tryout):

Registration: Opens March 1st for returning | Opens May 2nd for new (must complete tryout)
Tryouts:  Every Saturday starting May 2, 2026 
Test are available 7 days a week. Please call for appointment
Test: 100-yard swim under 2:00 minutes.
Time: 9:00am to 12:00 pm
Test Location: Hansen Dam Aquatic Center
Participant Age: 9-17 years old

MANDATORY PARENT MEETING

At least one parent/guardian must attend along with their new or returning Junior Lifeguard. Additional uniform items will be available for purchase on this day.
